# In Cuzco
Cuzco war die Hauptstadt des Inkareiches, das sich in seiner grössten Ausdehnung von Kolumbien bis nach Chile erstreckte. Heute ist Cuzco mit ca. einer halben Million Einwohnern immer noch die sechstgrösste Stadt und Tourismushauptstadt Perus.
In der seit 1983 zum UNESCO Weltkulturerbe gehörenden Altstadt gibt es viele koloniale Gebäude, die auf Ruinen aus der Inkazeit errichtet wurden und von Tausenden von Touristen besucht werden. Im Juni scheint es ein Fest nach dem anderen zu geben.
Cusco was the capital of the Inca Empire, which at its greatest extent stretched from Colombia to Chile. Today, with approximately half a million inhabitants, Cusco is still the sixth-largest city and the tourist capital of Peru. The historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, boasts many colonial buildings constructed on Inca ruins and attracts thousands of tourists. In June, it seems like there's one festival after another.
